Compensation for Criminal Injuries from the CICA

If you have been injured as a result of a crime, compensation can be claimed from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA). As it is Government-funded, there are certain rules and criteria that a victim must meet in order to claim, however it has been set up for this reason. In most instances, if you have the correct documentation regarding your criminal injury, then your criminal compensation claim will almost certainly succeed.

Criteria for criminal injuries compensation:

  • Received the injury as a result of a crime
  • Injury must require two follow up doctor’s appointments
  • Recovery period from injury/injuries takes at least six weeks

You may be able to claim through the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) if you were physically or psychologically injured as a direct result of a violent crime in the UK. Claims can also be made on behalf of children or someone who has died as a result of the incident.
