Criminal Defence in a massive fraud case resulting in not guilty verdict: R-v-M & Others

David Phillips and Partners criminal defence solicitors successfully represented M in what was described as “the largest mail fraud in the United Kingdom” resulting in a not guilty verdict.

M worked for a mail consolidation company. His business involved consolidating mail from other businesses to negotiate better postal rates with Royal Mail and other mail service providers. M and 6 others were alleged to have dumped millions of items of mail in industrial skips rather than processing it, making huge profits in the process.

The case involved a vast amount of paperwork served as evidence, and even more that was not referred to directly, known as “unused material”. The unused material alone had to be stored in a warehouse! David Phillips and Partners solicitors diligently sifted through all the evidence on M’s behalf to assess its merit in assisting M’s defence.

Ultimately, the prosecution accepted David Phillips and Partners solicitors’ view of M’s innocence, and dropped the case on the day of the trial.
