Criminal Defence in a manslaughter case for a doorman resulting in acquittal: R-v-G

G was prosecuted for manslaughter after killing a man while working as a doorman. David Phillips and Partners criminal lawyers defended him, securing a ‘not guilty’ verdict.

G was working as a doorman at a venue when, in the course of dealing with a man, he knocked him to the ground causing his death. G was charged with manslaughter, and instructed David Phillips and Partners criminal defence solicitors to represent him.

The pathologist in the case stated that the man died due to head trauma caused by his head hitting the ground after he fell. However, G stated that he was acting in self defence, and acted reasonably in the circumstances.

We interviewed witnesses, investigated further, and prepared his defence on this basis.

After a week long trial at which David Phillips and Partners criminal solicitors advised and represented, the court accepted G’s version of events and he was acquitted of the manslaughter charge.
